焚香釋出有害物質

【明報專訊】除了增加山火風險外,露天焚燒冥鏹亦會造成嚴重空氣污染。長春社2008年引述一項台北市的研究指出,燒一公噸冥鏹會產生約10公斤懸浮粒子、2.3公斤硫氧化物、2.5公斤氮氧化物及109公斤一氧化碳。另外,台灣環保署估計,每燒一噸冥鏹所產生的空氣污染物,相當於6.5萬輛私家車以時速50公里開行一公里的排放量。

2005年香港理工大學一項研究發現,焚香會釋出多種有害物質,包括一氧化碳及可吸入懸浮粒子。負責是次研究的理大土木及結構工程學系教授李順誠指出,一般香都含有重金屬或化學物質,燃燒時這些化學物質便會釋放出來。由於燒香的溫度不高,有害物質不會因熱力而分解,反而會釋放在空氣中。他特別指出,研究採用的樣本中「環保香」釋出的污染物和傳統的香相差無幾,而帶香薰氣味的香同樣會釋出有害物質。

「環保化寶爐」過濾黑煙

為減少燃燒香燭冥鏹時產生的有害物質,生產力促進局及內地專家於2005年共同研發全球首創的「環保化寶爐」。生產力促進局環境管理部首席顧問方湛樑表示,環保化寶爐運作原理是將燃燒冥鏹時產生的高溫黑煙先抽進降溫風槽,然後經一個噴射淋水裝置以沉澱較大的塵灰粒,再以特別設計的「靜電除塵裝置」收集細小的微粒,最後由一台高效能抽風機將過濾後的「清煙」向高位排放。

方湛樑表示,這個概念源自酒樓油煙系統的靜電除塵技術,因廟宇黑煙問題與油煙有相同之處,故加以改良。他指未有量度「環保化寶爐」可減排多少污染物,但即使是比「可吸入懸浮粒子」(PM10)更小的懸浮粒子,絕大部分均可經靜電系統過濾,依附在粒子上的有毒物質亦可隔除

上環文武廟、紅磡觀音廟及赤柱天后廟已安裝「環保化寶爐」,首間設置環保化寶爐的廟宇上環文武廟,其負責人說,以往廟宇使用「鐵皮屋」式的化寶爐,黑煙直接排出,曾經收到環保署警告,故廟方決定購買新式化寶爐,認為成效顯著。負責人又表示,雖然比平常多付兩成電費,水費亦微升8%,但認為「愛護環境也是積德,花多點錢亦合理」
