Grease Trap
Introduction
A grease trap is used to remove the wastewater quality, in particular, oil
and grease before discharge to the sewage. All restaurants and food processing
factories are required to install grease traps so that greasy particles will
be separated from wastewater before passing to communal sewers. Restaurants
are the main source of greasy waste. Hence, it is very important for them
to install greasy traps.
Problems
Oil and Grease that is allowed to enter sewer system causes problems.
Oil and Grease will separate from the wastewater and accumulate on the inside
of the sewer pipes. Grease deposits will reduce the capacity of the sewer
pipes and will cause sewage blockage and overflow, offensive odour and an
unhealthy environment.
About the grease traps
The grease trap is a two-chambered tank positioned along the wastewater drain
pipe. Wastewater slows down as it moves through the compartments of the trap,
allowing time for less dense material to separate and rise to the liquid surface.
Liquid and solid grease as well as light waste particles will be held in the
trap while the wastewater below passes out.
